Pied Wagtails, Grand Parade, Cork City – 12/12/2020

At dusk in the winter months Pied Wagtails flock together to roost for the night. They will often roost near street lights for the heat the lights emit. This is a phenomenon that I first observed a couple of years ago, and was enchanted by. There are so many birds that they look like leaves on the bare winter branches. It’s a social event that occurs in parallel to our own noisy lives down below.
